What should crane operators know about swing radius hazards?

AIQ-007 · Knowledge
Swing radius hazards occur when the crane's counterweight or boom tail swing into people, structures, or equipment during rotation operations.
The swing radius encompasses the circular area swept by the crane's counterweight and boom tail during rotation. Operators must establish and maintain exclusion zones around this area before beginning any lift operations. The most common accidents occur when workers, vehicles, or structures enter the swing radius while the crane is operating.
Remember: "TAIL SWING STING" - Remember the counterweight and boom tail can strike during rotation
