What is the difference between certified and qualified riggers under OSHA rules?

COMP-306 · Compliance
Certified riggers hold third-party credentials, while qualified riggers demonstrate competency through employer evaluation under OSHA standards.
OSHA requires riggers to be either "qualified" or "certified" depending on the lifting operation. A qualified rigger is someone who possesses a recognized degree, certificate, or professional standing, or has extensive knowledge, training, and experience to solve problems related to rigging operations. The employer determines qualification through documented evaluation of the rigger's knowledge and abilities.
Remember: "CTP vs QED: Certified = Third-Party, Qualified = Employer Demonstrates"
