Signs of steel fatigue in a lattice boom after 20 years of service?

MAINT-004 · Maintenance
Look for visible cracks at weld joints, chord connections, and high-stress areas. Inspect for bent members, loose bolts, and metal fatigue patterns.
After 20 years of service, lattice boom steel fatigue manifests in several critical areas. Primary indicators include hairline cracks at weld joints, particularly where chord members connect to lacings and where boom sections join together. These cracks typically appear first at stress concentration points and can propagate rapidly under load cycling.
