How do you calculate sling tension and load control for a choker hitch around an irregular load?

RIGX-003 · Rigging
Calculate choker tension using T = (W × HHF) ÷ (2 × sin θ) where W is load weight, HHF is horizontal hitch factor, and θ is the sling angle.
For choker hitches around irregular loads, tension calculation requires determining the choker angle and applying the appropriate horizontal hitch factor (HHF). The basic formula is T = (W × HHF) ÷ (2 × sin θ), where tension equals load weight times the HHF divided by twice the sine of the sling angle. The HHF varies from 0.75 for D/d ratios of 25:1 to 1.57 for ratios of 1:1, where D is the load diameter and d is the sling diameter.
Reference: ASME B30.9 Slings Standard
Remember: "TWO SINS" - Tension = Weight × HHF ÷ (2 × sin θ)
