How do you calculate sling tension and load control for a center-of-gravity check for an offset HVAC unit?

RIGX-005 · Rigging
Calculate sling tension using T = W / (n × cos θ), then shift rigging points to balance the offset load's center of gravity.
For offset HVAC units, start by determining the actual center of gravity through equipment specifications or field measurement. The unit's weight distribution is rarely uniform due to compressors, coils, and internal components. Calculate individual sling tension using the formula T = W / (n × cos θ), where T is tension per sling, W is total weight, n is number of slings, and θ is the sling angle from vertical.
Reference: ASME B30.9 Slings standard and OSHA 1926.251 Rigging Equipment for Construction
Remember: CG-SHIFT: Center of Gravity requires Sling points Halfway between Intended balance points For Tension distribution.
